Tips & Tricks To Tire Out Your High Energy Dog

It can be difficult for most dog owners to deal with a very active pooch. Although not all dogs are hyper, there are certain breeds of dogs that are known for their extremely high energy levels. For instance, Huskies, Golden Retrievers, Border Collies, Australian Shepherds, Dalmatians, Poodles, and German Shepherds – a breed that the presidential pets of the 46th POTUS falls under. While these dogs look very adorable, thanks to their shiny fur and cute personalities, they also require lots of energy to keep up with.

Thankfully, there are tips and tricks to help tire out your dog and make it calm down.

Try Tug Of War
Dog training experts recommend playing tug of war with your very active furry friend. This game is so much fun, something that your pooch will surely enjoy. Plus, it’s a great exercise too and a good way to teach your pet some basic obedience commands.

The tug of war game is a physically demanding activity for your dog, which can tire them easily. But since most of the toys that are used for the tug of war game are made from rope and other materials that your dog can effortlessly destroy, make sure you put it away at the end of your game. Nevertheless, the tug of war is a great game to tire your high-energy dog.

Use An Automatic Dog Ball Launcher
Another trick is to use a dog ball launcher. This is a fun way to get your pet to exercise daily. Although you can play catching a ball game with your pooch, this could make your arm sore easily and you’ll get tired throwing the ball towards your pet over and over again. But with the use of a dog ball launcher, the task will be so much easier.

Just like the game of tug of war, the use of an automatic dog ball launcher is also a physically demanding activity for your pooch. Thus, at the end of the game, your high-energy dog will surely feel exhausted and that’s enough to make it stay calm.

Play Mind Games
There are puppy mind games that can help to keep your dog entertained while making them exhausted in the end. One example is the muffin game. For this game, you only need a standard muffin tin, either a 6-oz. or 12-oz. tin. You also need some dog-friendly balls that you can place inside the tin. A good example would be tennis balls. For this activity, you also need some treats that you need to hide underneath the balls. This will train your pup to sniff in search for the treats. At the end of this exercise, your active pup will stay calm due to exhaustion.

Final Thoughts

High-energy dogs might be a challenge to deal with but they are the best dogs to own. They can make for an amazing companion since they are loving and smart, and would always prefer to have some tasks to work on. In short, they are very hard working dogs and are fun to be around. The key to making them relax or calm is always to provide them physically demanding activities. Aside from the tips above, you can also take them hiking, swimming, jogging etc.
