What To Do If Your Dog Is Lost?

The worse thing that a dog owner could experience is to realize that their beloved pooch is nowhere to be found. As pet parents, we treat our pets like our child, which is why it can be very devastating to find out one day that your dog is lost.

The best thing that you can do in this case is to take a deep breath and try to stay calm. That way, you will be able to think of a more logical solution to find your dog. Sure, it’s a scary thought but if you panic, you might just not see your canine companion ever again. Even worse, you could end up doing something that you’ll regret later on.

Remember, there are solutions to everything so instead of panicking, here’s what you should do to reunite with your pooch once again as soon as possible.

Use A Dog GPS Tracker App
dog GPS tracker is a great investment for your dog as it allows dog owners to easily locate their missing pup. Just like a navigational GPS tool, the dog GPS tracker is capable of pinpointing the exact location of your pooch. It can be connected to an app on your smartphone, allowing you to monitor your pup’s location in real time. So when you notice that your dog is nowhere to be found, simply open the dog GPS tracker app that’s linked to the chip attached to the collar of your dog. Then the app will reveal the exact location of your canine buddy.

Check Local Shelters
If you don’t have a dog GPS tracker, the first thing that you need to do is to get in touch with an animal shelter in your local area to check if your furry friend is there. If possible, visit the shelter yourself so you can personally check each and every dog they have rescued and identify your dog. It’s also a good idea to give them a picture of your pooch so they can call you if they come across your dog somewhere.

Try to check with animal shelters outside of your city as well. Dogs are capable of wandering far away and the longer that your pooch is gone, the farther it may have traveled away. As a matter of fact, a lost German Shepherd Dog was once found 8 miles away from the owner’s home after only 30 minutes of getting lost! And this certainly wouldn’t happen to Champ and Major, the presidential pets of the 46th POTUS.

Advertise
If you are determined to find your dog, you should consider paying for ads on local newspapers, radio stations or TV. Also, distribute as many posters as you can in your neighborhood that has a clear photo of your pup along with details on how they can reach you if they find your pooch. If you want, you may also consider giving rewards to those who will find your pet to entice them into returning your dog. Make sure you include that info on the poster.

Check With Local Vets
Get in touch with the veterinarians in your area. Your canine buddy might have been injured or got involved in an accident and was taken to a local vet for treatment. Try to visit the vets personally and hang a poster with your dog’s face in it. Make sure you indicate your contact details as well. That way, if someone with a good heart takes your dog to the vet, they would be able to get in touch with you.

Take Advantage Of Social Media
Nowadays, almost everyone spends most of their time each day on social media, so take advantage of this medium when looking for your dog. If you’ve got a Facebook or Instagram account, post a poster there and other details about your missing dog and encourage your followers to share the post.
