A Havanese dog can live for anywhere between 14 to 16 years.
Like most small dog breeds, these doggies are quite healthy and will live long and happy lives as long as they are well taken care of. While their lifespans are quite long for dogs, this does not mean that they do not have any health issues. Here are a few health problems that you may have to plan for.
This is a condition where the patella bone in the knee joint gets loose and moves about in the joint complex. This could cause a lot of joint pain to the Havanese and even affect their mobility and activity levels.
This is one of the most serious issues that a Havanese dog could have. It could be simple heart murmurs that manifest early in life.
It could also be complications of other diseases like obesity or diabetes which is why you should ensure your Havanese gets up to 30 minutes of exercise every day.
Cancers are not noticeably more common in Havanese dogs than any other breed. However, as with most other dogs, cancer is the leading cause of death in Havanese dogs especially in old. This includes tumors of the gut, blood, reproductive system, and the skin.
Havanese dogs do not smell bad due to skin or anal gland issues. However, they are prone to odors due to poor dental health. This includes a sour stench often associated with tartar buildup and/or gingivitis.
